Crypto Scammers Target Shiba Inu Community with Fake Token Airdrop Scam

The Shiba Inu community, a prominent presence in the cryptocurrency world, recently fell victim to a crypto scam when the Telegram account of a key member was compromised to promote a fraudulent token airdrop.

Ragnar Shib, a respected administrator within the Shiba Inu community, saw his Telegram handle hijacked, leading to the dissemination of misleading information regarding a BONE token airdrop. Fortunately, quick action from other influential figures within the Shiba Inu ecosystem helped thwart the scam and protect unsuspecting members.

Kusama Warns Shiba Inu community of the ongoing Scam

Vet Kusama, a notable presence in the community, took to Twitter to alert the SHIB Army about the compromised account and emphasize that there were no legitimate BONE token airdrops. He made it clear that Ragnar Shiba’s Telegram account had been hacked and urged people not to click on any links provided by the hijacked account.

Similarly, the administrator of Shiba Inu’s Discord channel, known as DaVinci, also stepped in to warn community members about the incident. DaVinci advised the SHIB Army against engaging with Ragnar Shiba’s compromised Telegram account, highlighting that the hacker was using deceitful tactics to lure individuals into compromising their Shiba Inu investments.

DaVinci emphasized the importance of avoiding any communication or transactions with the compromised account and urged members to report any suspicious activity promptly, prioritizing the safety of the community.

Lucie, Shiba Inu’s content marketer, shared a screenshot of DaVinci’s cautionary message with the SHIB enthusiasts on the X platform, ensuring that the warning reached a wider audience.

The scammer behind the hacked account claimed that the fraudulent airdrop was a way to celebrate the community’s engagement with Shiba Inu’s journey and offered free BONE tokens through a web portal. Vet Kusama, however, blurred the link address in the shared message to prevent users from falling victim to the scam.

As a concerned member of the Shiba Inu community pointed out, this incident underscores the need for the Shiba Inu development team to establish a dedicated cybersecurity unit to prevent future compromises of community members’ accounts and maintain the security of the ecosystem.
