Upon reviewing the proposal within Project Catalyst, Charles Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano, expressed his thoughts on a gaming initiative. The proposal, presented by Pierre Aceituno, introduces the concept of Herd, a decentralized music and DJ battle game that integrates blockchain technology, NFTs, and community governance.
Innovative Gaming Experience
Herd offers an innovative gaming experience by enabling players to mix sound packs in real time and participate in DJ battles streamed live on Twitch. Players have the opportunity to compete against AI and earn rewards through active community engagement.
The game leverages NFTs, allowing artists to monetize their work by creating sound packs. Artists will receive royalties from in-game transactions and secondary market sales, establishing sustainable revenue streams for creators. In response to the ambitious project, Hoskinson lightheartedly shared a gif with the caption, “He’s gone mad with power,” reflecting his amusement at the bold vision presented by Aceituno.

The Herd project implements a dual-token economy, featuring a stable utility token for purchasing in-game assets and entering tournaments. Additionally, the governance token empowers players to vote on decisions related to treasury allocation and future game development.
The proposal outlines the establishment of a Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) in Japan to oversee the management of intellectual property, project development, and treasury governance for the Herd project. This framework aims to distribute rewards to players and artists while ensuring effective project management and sustainability.
Success of the Herd Project
The success of the Herd project hinges upon strategic partnerships and technologies, including integration with Midnight for NFT management and privacy features. The launch of Herd is contingent on the successful release of the Midnight mainnet, with consideration for an alternative plan involving the Cardano mainnet.
