Tim Harrison, the Vice President of community and Ecosystem at IOHK now IOG, tweeted about the massive progress achieved by the SPOs community on the upgrade over the weekend.
According to Tim, the block-producing node metric is now at 58% for the epoch and hourly at 76%. The app developers are working unrelentingly in preparation for the Vasil upgrade.

Prerequisites For The Vasil Upgrade
Recall, for the mainnet upgrade to be initiated, the IOG and Cardano Foundation teams will be checking three critical mass indicators of the community which include;
- 75% of mainnet blocks being fabricated by the final Vasil node candidate, the final node, version 1.35.3
- Approximate 25 exchanges upgraded symbolizing 80% of ADA liquidity
- Top 10 DApps by TVL confirming they have upgraded to .35.3 on PreProduction and are ready for mainnet.
According to the developers, once everything is ready and comfortable, in close partnership with Cardano Foundation, the Cardano will trigger the upgrade for the Cardano mainnet.
As reported in the previous post by Cryptolifedigital, IOG stated that the team’s target for the upgrade is 75%, adding that 57% of the node on the Cardano mainnet are already running on node 1.35.3. Interestingly, as stated by the IOG, 4 of the top 10 Cardano dApps by TVL are running extensive tests with node 1.35.5 on the testnet.

In a nutshell, the above progress is a clear indication that Vasil’s upgrade is possible and fast approaching.
Reasons For The Vasil Upgrade
The Vasil Hard Fork is dubbed after a respected Cardano community member, the late Vasil st Dabov. The upgrade aims to bring significant improvements using Cardano’s hard fork combinatory (HFC) approach and aid the network’s performance by increasing throughput, script efficacy, and reducing latent block transmission.
Although, the upgrade has once been postponed two times to conduct further tests and also to make sure that the upgrade is bug-free.
Alonzo Upgrade Is Operating On Cardano
It is worth noting, that Alonzo upgrade has been operating on Cardano since and has brought a host of new possibilities for decentralized applications (DApps), Decentralized exchanges (DEXS)_, and decentralized finance (Defi) solutions development on Cardano.
Also, Alonzo introduced a multi-functional environment enabling smart contract development using Plutus scripts along with native tokens introduced in Mary. The reason for the invasion of the Vasil upgrade is to scale and optimize the ledger to facilitate efficient development for a range of new applications.
